ORIGINAL WWII US ARMY WWII - POST WAR OD7 CANTEEN COVER

ABOUT HANDLING CHARGES: I still hate handling charges and view them as a loop hole for some unreputable sellers to increase their profits.  I won't use handling charges unless a buyer requests insurance or delivery confirmation.  Remember!  The Post Office DOES NOT have true tracking!!!!!  Delivery confirmation is the only service they offer with Parcel Post and Priority and all that does is show you when it was delivered, it does NOT track nor does tell you if the package was actually delivered to the right address.  The Post Office will swear up and down they offer tracking but experience shows otherwise.  If you want true tracking you have to mail out United Parcel Service which costs more, but has tracking AND insurance (up to $100.00) included in the shipping costs.

ABOUT POSTAGE RATES.  I do refund any excess postage the eBay shipping calculator charges if and when it happens and it does.  If postage comes out to more, I eat that cost so I try to be careful about postage.  I never deliberately try to increase profit by boosting postage.  That has been suggested by a couple of people.  You know what?  Just because you had something shipped from somebody that came from someplace else cheaper doesn't mean it's that cost for all 50 states.  And size of the box determines excess postage sometimes.  When anything gets over 12 inches in width, length or depth some postage goes sky high.  That's why I OFFER OPTIONS, because some postage will be much cheaper.  I had one brainiack tell me something was outrageous and yes, the Priority shipping was very high, but if Dr. Spock there had bothered to look at the optional shipping he would have seen it could have been shipped three times cheaper via Parcel Post.  Sometimes when this happens and I notice it I try to bring that to the attention of the buyer and will refund if they made a mistake after payment.  You would be surprised to know how many people just accept Priority shipping without even thinking or looking at the optional shipping rates.

NO I WILL NOT GIVE A DAMAGE REFUND OR DISCOUNT if it's damaged in transit.  You DO have a SEVEN DAY RIGHT OF INSPECTION and return it (at buyer's cost) for a full refund of the auction bid amount.  I have had more than one person tell me they wanted some money back for damage they wouldn't prove.  Basically they wanted to get a kick back for what they bought.  It's doesn't mean I won't work with somebody if it's a reasonable request, but sometimes people just have to have a little something extra after all is said and done.  I try to pack things as best I can, and if I feel I was amiss on that I will gladly work with somebody.  Sometimes I forget people value boxes and packaging and I can feel their pain so if I feel I didn't package something good enough I am more than happy to work with someone.  Most of the time I am very careful although I do try to use whatever boxes I can find instead of buying them to keep from charging a handling fee.

NO INTERNATIONAL SALES OR APO ADDRESSES!   I'm sorry, but I've had to many problems shipping out of the United States and will not do so any longer, NO EXCEPTIONS.  The last person I shipped to at an APO address turned out to be in Japan and that cost me $160.00.  I am VERY sorry if your kid has a birthday and a rare uncurable disease (I really had a buyer tell me this), but I am not here to save the world, only sell an item and it may not be fair to you to exclude you from this sale or sell it out from under everyone else, but I don't think it's fair to change the rules of an auction and cut everyone else out.  However, if I am offered enough to retire and buy an offshore island I might consider ending this auction early and ignoring my morals.  I try to be honest and fair, please don't ask me to do otherwise.

PAYMENT MUST BE RECEIVED WITHIN 7 DAYS.  Or I will file a claim with eBay and relist item for sale.

Copper Plate Persian Gulf Command WW 2 World War II

Offered for bid is a WW2 Persian Gulf Command award/service plate. This was probably an award plate commemorating service to an officer.

Everything is authentic, the Persian Gulf Command patch on plate and accuracy of map date this to within 1943 to 1945.

When I first saw this I thought it was a Gulf War Plate from Desert Storm or Shield. Imagine my shock when it turned out to be from WWII.

Ironic how history repeats itself over and over. A great piece of Memorabilia, conversation piece or serve some cordials with some cognac.

Plate is in great shape on tiny fork ding or pimple just noticeable on close inspection.

A great quote from The Big Red One when the Infantry Guys read off the names on a memorial in France, and they remark how quickly they were able to erect a monument to their lost buddies and their Sarge says no these are guys from the Big Red One in WWI.

This plate is 9 1/4 inches in diameter.

Weigh 387.6 grams or 12.47 troy oz.

The Persian Gulf Command was a United States Army service command established in December 1943 to assure the supply of U.S. lend-lease war material to the Soviet Union. Its history originated in September 1941, when the U.S. Military Iranian Mission led by Engineer officer COL Raymond A. Wheeler (later CG) was established to facilitate lend-lease supply to the U.S.S.R.[1] At this same time, the Iranian District of the North Atlantic Division was set up to provide construction support. In August 1942 the mission was re-designated as the Persian Gulf Service Command, and in December 1943 became the Persian Gulf Command. It subsequently came under the command of a succession of engineer generals. Following the War Department’s full militarization of construction, the Iranian District ceased to exist in May 1943. Three districts directly subordinate to the area command eventually replaced it. Eventually thousands of personnel worked in Iraq as well.

Iran was already occupied by British and Russian troops who were guarding the oil fields and keeping an eye on the pro-German Iranians (Persians). Hitler believed that German military forces could eventually take possession of the oil fields and the railroad that went through the mountains from the Persian Gulf to the Russian border.

Conditions in Persia were new and foreign, and hotter than anything Americans had previously trained for. Those who arrived in the summer of 1942 were welcomed by pouring rain and mud more than a foot deep. This is where they had to pitch their tents to sleep on the ground for the next six months until huts were built. The rainy season was followed by temperatures that rose as high as 170 degrees in the desert sun, accompanied by sand storms that persisted for as long as a week as they constantly changed the landscape.

Between 1942 and 1945, the United States helped to equip Russia with 192 thousand trucks and thousands of aircraft, combat vehicles, tanks, weapons, ammunition and petroleum products. Before the construction of the aircraft assembly plant at Abadan, Iran, the United States Army Air Force flew A-20 medium bombers across the Atlantic to Abadan, where they were turned over to Russian flyers. Army engineers transformed the camel paths into a highway for trucks and improved the railroad with its more than 200 tunnels so trains could carry tanks and tons of other heavy equipment over the mountains. Historian David Glantz has concluded that U.S. and British lend-lease assisted Soviet victory on the Eastern Front, but it was not a critical factor: 'left to themselves, the Soviets might have taken 12 to 18 months longer to defeat the Wehrmacht.'[2]

The Command, in conjunction with the British Tenth Army] and Soviet troops, also provided security for the Teheran Conference in the fall of 1943, the meeting of United States President Franklin D. Roosevelt, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, and Soviet Premier Joseph Stalin in the capital city of Iran. Allied troops all over the country were on the alert to protect the Big Three. The British, Soviet and American troops together prevented a German assassination attempt on the leaders at the conference.

Donald H. Connolly, 1942–1944.

Donald Prentice Booth, January 1945 until inactivation

Persian Gulf Command SHOULDER SLEEVE INSIGNIA: Description: On a green shield, 3 1/4 inches in height, a 7 pointed white star above a red scimitar fimbriated in white bendwise, point up.

Symbolism: The red scimitar, from the flag of Iran (or Persia) represented the warlike spirit of the ancient Persians. The white seven pointed star is taken from the flag of the Kingdom of Iraq. It represents purity and religion of the Middle East. The green color of the shield denotes the agriculture of Persia in olden days, and also stands for Islam, which is the religion of both Iran and Iraq. The colors red, green and white are found in the flags of both countries.

Background: The date the insignia was originally approved is not contained in the Institute of Heraldry files. Correspondence dated 13 May 1944 indicates the insignia drawing may be declassified. The unclassified drawing was approved on 29 August 1944.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How do I know your image description is accurate?

We strive to make our photo descriptions as accurate as possible. Descriptions are taken directly from the U.S. Library of Congress, National Archives, or other sources as noted. In many cases, these institutions hold the original negatives and state the ascribed notes directly from the original photographer. Therefore, we use these institutions as our standard of authority on description accuracy. We are not responsible for errors and we will not participate in disputes. Should you have a dispute, please contact the sighted source directly.

This listing provides buyers with the opportunity to review the image and agree or disagree with the item description before finalizing a purchase.  As such, no refunds will be issued on the basis of an allegedly inaccurate description.  We encourage you to feel comfortable with the stated description before ordering.

When can I expect my package?

Items are delivered via USPS First Class mail (2-5 business days) with no longer than one (1) day handling time. Your item should not be considered untimely unless it has not been received after one full week from your payment date (within the United States). Please consider weekends and holidays when anticipating your package arrival date as well.

International delivery times vary depending on location.  While First Class International usually delivers within 7-14 business days, it offers no guarantee on delivery times and may take up to a month.  Please take this into consideration if you are outside the United States and placing a time-sensitive order.

Is your transit packaging secure?

Great care will be taken to ensure that your item arrives in excellent condition. Prints are shipped flat on cardboard and sealed in a water-resistant envelope or, for posters and maps, rolled in a crush-resistant tube. We've successfully shipped thousands of prints in this manner, which demonstrates a reliability in our packaging methods.  Items will arrive in good order when handled properly by postal carriers.

Please note that we pay extra charges to have parcels delivered as PACKAGES, not regular mail.  This means your carrier should deliver your package to your doorstep (not bend or cram it into your mailbox).  Should you find your package damaged due to this type of handling, please contact your local post office.

How long do I have to pay?

Payment is expected within (7) seven days. This 7 day period may be used to acquire multiple items for the multiple item shipping discount. If 7 days is insufficient, please submit your payment and we will hold your shipment until you have acquired all your desired purchases. The multiple item discount will be applied on all items shipped together.

If payment is not received by the eighth day after purchase, we will initiate an unpaid item case.  We pay fees on all items sold through eBay and this process is the only way to reverse fees incured by unpaid transactions.  Should a payment issue arise, please don't hesitate to contact us. We're happy to work with you!

What do the S&H charges cover?

The shipping and handling charges associated with this item cover:

Shipping your package Shipping materials such as tubes, envelopes, paper, cardboard, etc. eBay insertion fees eBay final value fees Electronic payment costs such as Paypal transactions fees Transportation costs (applied to international sales only)

Please note our very low auction starting price.  These costs are not included into that price, but rather the shipping and handling portion of the transaction.  This is done to avoid fee double jeopardy:

With eBay's bracketed fee scale, including the selling fees into the starting price would push the sale into a higher fee bracket, resulting in fee double-jeopardy (paying higher fees to recover the cost of fees).  These higher cost would ultimately be passed on to our buyers.  We find this unacceptable, as we are constantly striving to keep our prices as low as possible.  We hope that you will framiliarize youself with our price structure before you bid.  Should you have further questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.

We will happily exchange any defective or problematic merchandise. However, cash refunds are not allowed, as your bid is a commitment to buy according to eBay policy.  The nature of our merchandise also compells us to protect against being treated as a lending library.  Therefore, please be confident of desire for our items before placing your order.  We ask that you contact us with any potential issue before leaving negative feedback, as we are committed to your 100% satisfaction and feel any problem can be easily resolved.

CHALLENGE COIN 19TH INFANTRY REGIMENT CIVIL WAR KOREAN

Challenge Coin

THE COINS ARE WAY BETTER THAN THE PICTURES. EBAY CHANGED UP THEIR SITE AGAIN AND NOW MY SCANNER IS NOT SET UP RIGHT.

Challenge Coins are becoming a huge collectable item these days. The history goes way back and you'll hear of different stories of the first one being made from WW2 to Vietnam and even the British. I don't know which story is true. What I do know is that soldiers love these and are awarded them when special deeds are done that are more deserving than just a pat on the back but less deserving of an achievement award. These coins will come from Generals, Colonels, Command Sergeant Majors or just about anyone in the chain of command. Almost all units in the military have designed their own unique coins. They make great keepsakes and wonderful conversational pieces.

Average features of my coins unless otherwise noted:

Dimensions-     1 3/4 inches

Material- Bronze mostly

Condition- New unless otherwise noted

Color- Mostly colorful on both sides unless an older coin

You will find many many sellers of challenge coins out there with prices ranging from 4.99 to 19.99 and postage from free to 4.50. I try my best to split it somewhere down the middle so I make a little profit and you get a fair price. There are also some very goodsellers out there. Just be sure to check feedbacks. I try to be as honest and fair as I can with very quick shipping.

I will combine shipping on multiple winning bids.

RARE COLLECTION OF ONE UNION CIVIL WAR SOLDIERS YEAR IN THE WAR

A This is not just an offering of a dead civil war soldier but a glimpse of family history in photos. It does consist of a unique collection of  23 letters , 22 from the soldier and one final one by his Sgt. to his family about his death in battle. All are written by a Union soldier, Demerest D. Hunter, starting on August 22, 1861 and going till June 22, 1862, which are written to his family members back home in Scotch Plains, NY. He was a regular in the 5th Regiment New York State Volunteers. The letters are those written and sent by him to his sister, brother, Mother, Father and Grandmother back in Scotch Plains, NY . Demerest was also the great great grandson of Cpt. Elijah Hunter. A double agent for George Washington, one of the nations first intelligence agents. “Elijah Hunter, 1775, was lieutenant in Capt. Daniel Mills' company, Col. James Holmes ' regiment, and was captain of grenadiers at the Battle of White Plains. He served as a delegate from Westchester county to the Assembly. He was born at New Castle, 1749, and died, 1815, at Mount Pleasant (Sing Sing).”

The letters are written from Camp Schuyler, Schuyler, NY; Camp Winfield, south of Yorktown, VA; Camp Warren, near West Point, VA; Camp Hanover, Hanover, VA; and his longest stay, Camp Federal Hill in Baltimore, MD.

For most of his stay in Camp Federal Hill, he worked on fortifying the stronghold under the supervision of General John Adams Dix. He wrote about his and other soldiers visits with locals, how they all enjoyed Baltimore the city and its people. He asks his family members for special things to be sent to him like butter, writing paper, cash, and a new revolver. He talks about a few excursions or recon trips his troop made to the Potomac and one in which they were expecting The Merrimack. He states how if he does not return that he represented his country and fought for its honor. He writes of how " If we get in a fight which is not very likely, I will never disgrace my country or family". His last letter is about his last call near Yorktown on the Chickasaw. These letters are followed by a very moving one written by his Sgt. C. C. Pike to his parents telling them of his death in battle and the honorable burial by his fellow soldiers. Really a very moving letter covering two pages. Beginning and end of which is in image below. Many of the letters have embossed printers' marks representing the Union. One letter is an embossed General with flag and underneath the words, "Brave In The Field, Wise In Council; A True Patriot. True To The Constitution."

This collection of letters also includes some 39 photos of which 15 are tin types of his surviving family and his sisters family with the Pound surname. To bad there are none of Demerest among them. Great genealogy material dated and age on family member photos dating from 1840  to 1900.  Images bearing the following family member names. His parents Edgar & Lydia Hunter (see image below), Annie Hiden, Will Davis, Ellen Hunter Pound, Jackson S. Pound, Elizabeth Pound Hart, Arthur Eugene Pound, Janice Pound Quin, Nellie Pound DeWald, Cicelia DeWald, Charles Coleman, Lydia Hunter Davis and others not identified.
The most interesting photo is a 6 x 8 in sepia of a family possibly those of Demerest in mourning clothing standing on a rocky shore.

In addition to the above, we are including 2 other images from what we are presuming is also the Pound family at a burial during WW1, one with honor guard firing their salute, which is in very poor condition, and the other a family burial plot in Presbyterian Cemetery on Brook Ave. near Watching Ave. North Plainfield, NJ with birth and death dates of those buried there, which is also in extremely poor condition, although it is 98% readable. Most are Pound & Stewart family members. (See image below)

So you have many years of two families history, not forgotten and saved. Maybe they will return to members of this family so they and future members may have a glimpse of their family ancestors history.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to own an intact collection from one soldier and his family. If this does not find a buyer we will offer each letter individually as well as the image collection.  More images of letters and tin types if you request them. Please mail request from our eBay ME page.

Rev War natural HEMP WEBBING shoulder bayonet belt!

Offered here is our hemp webbing shoulder belt, for carrying your bayonet.

The largest hemp  grower in America was- that’s right -George Washington.  The emergency clothing and tents made for the troops at Valley Forge was made of hemp. Because it is weather resistant, Betsy Ross’ flag is made out of hemp, not linen.  Ben Franklin used hemp twine in his famous electricity experiment, and also pioneered the use of hemp paper, establishing the first hemp paper mill.  Thomas Paine’s Common Sense was printed on hemp paper.  The rough drafts of the Declaration of Independence were written on hemp paper. (Only the final version was written on sheepskin.)  Thos. Jefferson was a great promoter of hemp, using it to pay for military supplies when he was governor of Virginia, and keeping a reserve supply for emergencies.  He even patented a hemp processing machine, receiving U.S. Patent No. 1.

During the War of Independence, shortages of materials and industry forced Washington’s army to use different materials for their equipment.  For example, because almost all leather went to make shoes, they used tin canisters for cartridge boxes, hemp paper for cartridges,  and hemp rather than leather for cartridge and shoulder belt straps.

Shoulder belts started in the F&I when british troops started wearing their waist belts  over the shoulder.  By the 1770s, this was standard in the Continental Army.  Our hemp shoulder belt is made of sturdy hemp webbing, 2” wide, and 72 inches long.   We make them a little long so you can take it up so it hangs right. It has a leather frog with the hole in it to carry your bayonet scabbard.  Because of the wide differences in bayonets, this does not come with a scabbard. Email us if you need the scabbard, too.   You simply cannot find a more authentic shoulder belt! Suitalbe for American, Loyalist.

Rev War/Colonial Military Cocked Tricorn hat!

Offered here is a new reproduction Rev War/Colonial Period Military Tricorn hat.  At the time, these were called "Cocked Hats," as they are to be worn with the front corner over the left eye. This is so that the gun does not hit the left corner of the hat and knock your hat off.  This is our good quality hat; it comes with white cotton tape around the edge, which is a little brighter than our best quality hat.  This is a military hat, suitable for British and American Army impressions, tory and patriot militia impressions.  It is NOT a civilian hat; we'll have them up soon!

For sizing, measure across the brow and above the ears where you wish the hatband to sit on your head when you wear the hat. If you plan to wear your hat over something else (such as a wig or bandana), take your head measurement while wearing your wig or bandana. Be sure to give an exact measurement, being careful not to add any additional length to the measurement. Do not use clothing label sizes or other hats for any sizes,  as they will almost assuredly be incorrect.  We don't know what an S or an XXL is, so please don't tell us that either, as we will then have to guess at the size of your noggin, and it will again assuredly be incorrect, and you'll get to pay shipping over and over again. MEASURE and let's get it right the first time! Appx. delivery time is 3 weeks.

RAJ Indian Mutiny Roberts MAPS Military WAR Sepoy ARMY

This is the illustrated 1898 colonial edition of FORTY ONE YEARS IN INDIA by Field Marshal Lord Roberts of Kandahar — featuring manuscript notes by the original owner …

Scans of this book may take a few moments to load: if so, your patience is appreciated…

Extensively annotated example of this classic military history of the Raj, including textual and cartographic emendations by contemporary military officer …

Hardback, more than five inches by eight tall (circa 125 mm x 203 mm if you prefer) is bound in its original blind-stamped boards, slightly bumped at lower edges. Note distress to head of back-strip protecting the intact spine.

First colonial edition in one volume, published in London by Richard Bentley and Son, 1898. Provenance through owner's name to page one and distinctive manuscript markings throughout. Although interior condition is overall very good, book may display minor signs of use or age — such as taped repair to reverse of map at p140, for example — consistent with a printed object of this vintage. All xxii preliminary pages + 597 pp main text are complete and otherwise correct.

From subaltern to commander-in-chief …

…  includes a fine account of the Indian Mutiny …

The work's 41 illustrations include several fold out maps …

¶ Field Marshal Frederick Sleigh Roberts, 1st Earl Roberts, Bt, VC, KG, KP, GCB, OM, GCSI, GCIE, KStJ, PC (1832–1914); Indian-born British soldier who regarded himself as Anglo-Irish — one of the most successful military commanders of the Victorian era.

"... it is noteworthy that Roberts was a Sepoy General, that is he was from the old Indian Army of the East India Company, not one of the Queen's officers. The result ... is that he shows love and respect for India and things Indian"; Jain 974; Riddick 401. ¶
