This is a Confederate 3.3 Archer Bolt. This bolt is a reproduction of the original bolt found at the Battle of Shiloh. At Shiloh, there were only 2 artillery units capable of firing this shell, only 6 guns in total. This bolt is unfired and at one time or another was discarded or dropped. The original bolt was found in an area where these two units were at one time or another in battery. I strive to make these reproductions resemble the original bolt as close as possible. This bolt has imperfections and is not perfect. This reproduction has all the imperfections as original.

Items are delivered via USPS First Class mail (2-5 business days) with no longer than one (1) day handling time. How long do I have to pay?

Payment is expected within (7) seven days. This 7 day period may be used to acquire multiple items for the multiple item shipping discount. If 7 days is insufficient, please submit your payment and we will hold your shipment until you have acquired all your desired purchases. Prepared by a board of Artillery Officers., Phila., Lippincott., 1861., 348pp, plus page on special knots for use of the artillery, 88 full page plates illustrating the use of artillery, movement of the batteries into battle row, section on bugle calls.  Original bindings, foxing, no odors. Tight and good.  ~~This manual was actually used by a Confederate Officer in the Civil War.  Making it quite rare.

Has inside front board, the name tag of the owner, C. I. Walker., also autographed by him on the fly-leaf., a few hand stamps from the South Carolina Military Academy.  ~~~~Cornelius Irvine Walker., was a graduate of the Citadel, April, 1861 and the 1st honors.  Cadet Battalian when it fired on the STAR OF THE WEST., He was present during the first shots fired at Fort Sumter., Drill officer of the 1st S. C. Vols, joined up with the 10th S. C. Vols.  Went to Mississippi in 1862, rank of Capt., Adjutent General with Gen. Manigault., severed in all the campaigns of the Army of Tennessee, rose to Lt. Col. of the 10th S. C., and commanded the regiment. He was wounded badly in mid-1864, and was distinguished in action.

Field artillery is used to attack and defend fortifications; to destroy or demolish material obstacles , and thus prepare the way for the success of other arms; to act upon the-field of battle; to break an enemy's line or prevent him from forming; to crush his masses; to dismount his batteries; to follow and support in a pursuit, and to cover and protect a retreat.

Artillery Weapons: The calibre and description of the pieces now in use (1864) in the service of the United States are the 6-pounder and 12-pounder gun, the 12-pounder, 24-pounder, and 32-pounder howitzer, and the 12-pounder light gun sometimes called the gun-howitzer. Each piece is mounted on a carriage and pulled by a horse.

CONDITION: Good, Solid and Clean for being 147 years old. Spine has been replaced with morocco leather. Corners are rubbed. Flyleaves are chipped with stains. Presentation bookplate of Hobart College on front endpaper..Please contact with specific questions.
