Flight Jacket Patch

Designated Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 334 (VMFA-334), August 1, 1967 ( F$-J Phantoms).

Departed MCAS El Toro on August 20, 1968.

Arrived at Da Nang on September 1.

Initial combat operations began immediately. VMFA-334 relocated to Chu Lai early 1969.

Remained in Vietnam until September 1969 when they were relocated to Iwakuni, Japan.

From there they flew air support over the US Navy intelligence ship the USS Pueblo which had been attacked and captured by North Korea.

In March 1971 they returned to MCAS El Toro and were deactivated on December 30, 1971

VIETNAM WAR ERA USMC DSA-1-9316 FLIGHT SUIT COVERALL

 HERE WE HAVE A USMC MILITARY ISSUE, VIETNAM WAR ERA FLIGHT SUIT COVERALLS. THIS BELONGED TO MY FATHER AND HAS BEEN IN STORAGE SINCE THE WAR. HE SERVED AS A CREW CHIEF ABOARD THE CH-46 IN THE MARINE CORPS DURING THE VIETNAM WAR. THIS WAS USED BY HIM DURING THAT ERA SO IT IS 100% AGE/ERA AUTHENTIC. HE WOULD HAVE WORN IT IN THE LATE 1960'S- EARLY 1970'S.

IT IS A SIZE 36R, SAFETY ORANGE COLOR, COTTON MENS SUMMER SUIT. IT HAS A COLLAR WITH INNER LOOP FOR HANGING AND ZIPPER DOWN THE FRONT. THERE ARE 2 ZIPPERED CHEST POCKETS, 2 VELCRO WAIST SINCHERS, 2 SIDE HIP VENTILATION/ACCESS ZIPPERS, 2 ZIPPERED KNEE POCKETS, 2 ZIPPERED SHIN POCKETS, 2 ZIPPERED ANKLE POCKETS, 2 SIDE LEG ZIPPERED WIDTH EXTENDERS, LEFT ARM ZIPPER POCKET WITH 4 PEN HOLDERS, 2 VENTILATION HOLES IN EACH ARMPIT, AND 2 WRIST ZIPPER WIDTH EXTENDERS. ON THE LEFT CHEST IS A RECTANGULAR VELCRO PATCH. THE ORIGINAL MILITARY ISSUE TAG SAYS "COVERALLS, FLYING, MENS SUMMER" OVER "36R" OVER "MIL-C-539OG (WEPS)" OVER "DSA-1-9316" OVER "MASON & HUGHES, INC." OVER "8415-543-7863".

THIS SUIT IS STILL SOFT AND FLEXIBLE BUT DOES HAVE SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE SUCH AS MAJOR TEARS, STAINS AND EVEN SOME FIELD REPAIR STITCHING. THIS ONE ALMOST CERTAINLY SAW ACTION DURING THE WAR. MOST OF HIS OTHER SUITS ARE IMMACULATE. ONLY THIS ONE HAS ALL OF THE DAMAGE. I HAVE NOT MADE ANY REPAIRS OR ALTERATIONS TO THIS SUIT. WHAT YOU SEE IS EXACTLY THE WAY IT CAME BACK FROM VIETNAM. I HAVE HAD IT PROFESSIONALLY DRY CLEANED FOR YOU. SO WHATEVER STAINING YOU SEE IS LIKELY NOT GOING TO COME OUT. IT HAS BEEN CLEANED AND PRESSED ONLY- NO OTHER ALTERATIONS OF ANY KIND HAVE BEEN MADE.
