Revolutionary War Lithograph by H.a. Ogden Uniforms of United States Army 1888

In 1885, the Quartermaster General of the United States Army published a series of extraordinary chromolithographs, recording the Army uniforms from colonial days to the year 1885. The foremost artist specializing in military subjects, H.A. Ogden, was selected to prepare the several prints. The lithography was accomplished by G.H. Buek & Company, NY and published by B.M. Whitlock, also of New York City.

Henry Alexander Ogden was an American Illustrator known for his depiction of Military Subjects especially the Revloutionary War.

Between 1890 and 1907, various sections of Uniforms of the United States Army were published. The Quartermaster General of the army had been so impressed with Ogden's work that he commissioned the artist to prepare designs depicting the uniforms of the army since its inception in the 18th century. The first dozen watercolors were completed by the mid-1880s; these were used in the Regulations for the Uniform of the Army of the United States published in May 1888. The artist began work on seventy paintings representing uniforms worn between 1774 and 1888. Some of this work was undertaken at Fort Jay on Governor's Island off New York, and to facilitate his work, examples of uniforms were sent up from Washington, D.C. In each drawing, Ogden depicted five soldiers of different rank. For each completed plate, he received $100. In 1890, the first forty-seven plates were published, and subsequent plates covered the period from 1898 up to 1907.

This lithograph print is from the "Uniforms" dated 1888 "Noncommissioned Officers -Staff Corps. Full Dress.  It is an original from thos published in 1890 measuring 17" by 13" and includes the second page describing the watercolr lithograph.  It is in good conidtion with a slight discoloration on the upper right border area - does not detract from the very high qulity of the physical print.  There is some minor corner bunt/creases.

Perfect for framing and display or make a wonderful film memory as a gift.

ca1898 TIN LITHOGRAPH COUNTRY STORE COFFEE DISPLAY TIN / BIN SPAN-AM WAR SHIP

Very rare and simply fantastic, 1890's, Tin Lithograph, Country Store Countertop, bulk Tea, Coffee or Spice Tin / Bin with fantastic Spanish American War / Great White Fleet decoration. This fantastic, larger size Display Tin measures approx. 10 1/2" tall and 6 3/4" by 9" at the base. This Bin was used in a Grocery or Dry Goods Store as a bulk container for various products - likely spices given its size. The Tin features nautical motifs on the top panel and on the hinged lid and is titled "White Squadron". On the curved, front panel there is a fantastic, lithographed image of the USS Baltimore - a United States Navy cruiser, and an early member of what would be known as the Great White Fleet.

Offered here is an original Country Store Bulk Tin / Bin which features a hinged cover on the canted section of the top which opens to fill the Bin and to allow customers access to the product inside. The Bin features tin lithograph decoration on all panels with "wallpaper" style patterned decoration on the side and back panels. The Top panel and the hinged lid features images of anchors, naval artillery, a life preserver, naval cutlasses and Naval Pennant Flags with text on the flags that reads "U.S." and "Navy". There is a tin holder on the hinged lid into which a label would have been inserted identifying the product that which the Bin contained thus allowing it to be used for different spices, teas or coffees at different times. The image on the front panel is a fantastic portrait of the US Navy Cruiser USS Baltimore steaming at full sped on the surface of the water.

We have never seen or heard of this style of Bulk Product Tin / Bin with Great White Fleet decoration but our best guess is that this was one of perhaps a number of such Bins featuring images of different US Navy Ships of the Spanish American War era.

This rare and very attractive, Country Store Bulk Tea Tin / Bin is 100% original and has not been restored, repaired or altered in any way. The very attractive decoration on the front panels remains in very good condition and the original, lithographed surface paint on all other sides is also mostly intact and attractive. Please see the scans below for a good indication of the condition of each of the 4 side panels, the top panel and the lid of this outstanding late 19th century Bulk Tea Tin / Bin.

A VERY rare and very attractive, 1890's Country Store Bulk Spice .\/ Tea / Coffee Display Tin / Bin / Canister featuring an image of the United States Navy Great White Fleet "Protected" Cruiser USS Baltimore and a fantastic addition to any collection!! Overseasshippping is extra and cost will be quoted at bidders request. Massachusetts residents must add 5% sales tax. Insurance is required on all items selling for $400 or more and optional on items selling for under $400 (but highly recommended. If you do not want insurance please let us know. Click Here to See Our Items We Have for Sale in the eBay Gallery Important Notes about Shipping Charges and the eBay "Detailed Seller Rating" Star System:

The amount quoted for Shipping & Handling is calculated by eBay and is equal to the EXACT amount charged by the Post Office plus a $1.00 "packing fee" - the $1.00 fee is our only compensation for the virgin packing materials we use on all of our professionally packaged boxes as well as our cost for the salaried help that does most of our packing - as I am sure you can see, we make NO profit on the Shipping charges and, in fact, our costs are usually greater than the $1.00 fee.

We have NEVER requested Feedback from our customers as we were taught that "fishing for compliments" was impolite but the new eBay Detailed Rating System has put us in a rather tight spot. Most buyers are unaware that eBay bases a monthly fee discount on a Seller's "Star" rating. A monthly average of "4.6 Stars" (in any one of the four "Star" categories) costs us approximately $400 in additional eBay Fees - that's $400 above what we would pay if we had a "4.8 Star" average in all 4 "Star" categories!! As a consequence we hope you do not find us rude to ask that if you are happy with our items, our service, and our packing & shipping please be sure to use the "Star" rating system and remember that a "5 Star" rating is the only way we can qualify for eBay's fee reduction program. ,

International Buyers – Please Note:

Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are the buyer's responsibility.

Please check with your country's customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding or buying.
