This auction is for an original 1863 EDITION of "PICTORIAL NATIONAL RECORDS" by W. O. Blake.

It contains descriptions of European and Asiatic nations: a statistical view of the United States of America, and a HISTORY OF THE GREAT REBELLION, compiled from authentic materials. 

The History of the war fills much the larger portion of the work giving an account of its origin, the secession of the Southern States, and the formation of the Confederate Government, the concentration of the military and financial resources of the federal government; together with sketches of the lives of all the eminent statesmen and military and naval commanders, Conederate and Union.

These books also contain statistics from the 1860 CENSUS and gives a picture of our population, agriculture, commerce, manufactures and internal condition at that time.

The numerous and BEAUTIFUL ENGRAVINGS!!! which adorn this work bear testimony to the earnest desire of the publishers to spare no effort or expense necessary to the production of a book which should prove in every way satisfactory to those interested in the subject treated.

Published in 1863 (volume 1) and 1866 (volume 2), this set is in GOOD CONDITION for its age; especially to be 149+ YEARS OLD!!! ALL PAGES ARE PRESENT!!! and tightly bound with NO TEARS!!! or destructive stray markings. Its most notable flaws are: the front and back decorated free endpapers are missing from volume one and volume two has been professionally restored. It has been rebound using the original leather and is complete with new endpapers. Each volume measures 7 1/4" X 10 1/4" and the set is complete with 1,867 pages.
